June 2023: Alice Williams Highly Commended in inaugural Housing with Care Awards

The inaugural Housing with Care Awards recognise and celebrate excellence in accommodation and services for people with learning disabilities and with mental health problems, retirement villages, assisted living, extra care housing and supported living schemes

Alice Williams, activities coordinator for Care & Support independent living schemes Protheroe House, Lorenco House and Roden Court, was highly commended by the independent panel of judges within the Activities Coordinator category.

Their comments about Alice were:

“Alice has supported some amazing work with residents who remember the arrival of the HMT Windrush and has supported them to bring alive their memories on its 75th anniversary.  She supports a very diverse group of residents and makes it possible for people with sensory impairments to enjoy activities alongside their peers.”

Alice fell into the role of Activities through a spate of volunteering in a similar scheme where she delivered art and craft classes to a group of older residents and immediately saw the nurturing and therapeutic benefits.

Alice started with One Housing in October 2016 and her role expanded to working in three schemes in Haringey. Through collaboration with One Housing’s Partnership Liaison officer Linda Kelly and the general managers, they have been able to facilitate exciting intergenerational projects with University and College students, UCL, RCSSD (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), the local Haringey Sixth Form and London Academy of Excellence (LAE). Alice also works with many different charities to provide regular exercise, music and art classes.
